Sharpening Your Speed Skates |

| In order to go fast and to be safe on the ice, you will need to have
sharp skates. Unlike figure skates or hockey skates, speed skates need
to be sharpen very often. Top level competitors have been known to
sharpen their skates between each race.
If the skates are dull, the young skater will experience considerable difficulty on the ice. The skater will not be able to hold the turn and will have a tendency to skate upright in stead of in base position. There are several different theories about sharpening speed skates.
