Coach Boomstra had great success with junior elite and elite speed skaters in the Netherlands.  She quickly came to the attention of US Speedskating and was hired to be the US National Team Coach in 1993.  As the resident speed skating coach at the Olympic Educational Center in Marquette, Michigan, Wilma trained and coached many of the speed skaters who earned spots on our World and Olympic Teams.

In 1995 Wilma married musician Emil Borde.  They gave birth to daughter Zoe and in 1996 moved to Southern California.  Wilma is now the coach for the Southern California Speed Skating Association, Ice Club DeMorra and the HealthSouth Speed Skating Club.
